It may be Halloween, but blogs are definitely NOT on the scary list.
Have you thought about creating a blog for your business yet? It really is pretty easy. I was a bit shy of the whole idea, but I finally realized I was missing a good way of reaching out to people. (I also realized I was a bit scared of the technology.) This has to be hard for a non tech-savvy person, I assumed. Wrongly.
Here's an idea. Try creating a practice blog. It doesn't need to be work-related at this stage. Just relax and learn. No one ever has to see it. Write about something you like. Blog about your cat. Pizza. Anything. This will give you the chance to play with the concept for a bit, get comfortable posting, and start to feel at ease with the technology.
First, find a free blog site. I used Google, but if you do a search for "free internet blogs"or "free blog platforms," you'll find a thorough list. Set up an account for yourself, follow the directions, and you should be up and running in about ten minutes. (Remember, this is just practice. And really, you can't break anything. Honest.)
And since it is just practice, make it a private blog. That way, no one can view it unless you give them a passcode.
Go on! Talk about that great 6 cheese pizza you had last night. Post a picture of it, too!
Very quickly you will realize how easy this technology is to use, and feel ready to use blogging as a new business tool.
I'll be talking about blogs more in the future as a marketing tool.
Happy Halloween
